Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. ~ Coco Chanel
Over the last several years, I have been exploring the idea that fashion is not just limited to “the fashion industry”. It is so much bigger than any business or industry. Fashion is grounded in things like; adornment, self-expression, self-acceptance, tradition and ritual. In Western culture clothes in their most basic form are used to cover our bodies. And for many clothes are much more than a covering, they are a statement or an expression. A way to hide, be seen, express oneself, take a stand, make an impression, and the list goes on.
I am learning through my current work with women, that clothes play an important role in our well-being. The choices we make about what to put on our bodies, often expresses on a deeper level, what emotion is being felt on the inside. The basic function of clothes as a bodily covering is extremely practical and yet what we put on our bodies has a much deeper meaning. This is an on-going exploration that will grow and develop over-time. In the future would also like to do a similar research around men and fashion as well.
I will be sharing my different explorations on this topic, as well as, client stories.
My next post is a great client story!
